We do not elect or even select our Govt. to get into our private lives. These are done only in dictatorships. Our democratic system is admired abroad is because our government is expected to be on our side and create opportunities for "all" of us so that we can we can get good jobs with a good education, good health care etc. It is only in dictatorships and fascist systems that the Govt. tells you whom you should go to bed with, what religion you should follow etc.
