Good point Gottfried. Schaeffer has gone bearish in his outlook lately. That is actually a good thing for the bulls. We need more bearish investment writers. We did not see a VIX of 100 last time even though that was his expectation. Heck, for all we know his expectations may be for a VIX > 120 at the next bottom.

What I would suggest to you though is that a cross over where we see more bears than bulls in the Investors Intelligence Poll would be a great sign of a bottom forming. That and Volatility Indices at, or near, previous long term highs would be highly indicative of another long term bottom.

Thanks for your input.

To be fair, Schaeffers was bullish on speculative, high beta names and techs in 2002 bottom and said those would outperform the bigcaps by wide margin. He was not bullish on a long term basis at the time, but did say smallcaps and techs were the place to be.

He has always been long term bearish even during the 2003 rally.

He turned IT bearish early this year. I dont remember in February or March.
