With all due respect to Bush, Clinton shot both barrels in a attempt to get a peace agreement, but Arafat wouldn't sign. There really wasn't much Bush could do for awhile, he had to let things set for a bit.

Bush may be right in not dealing with Arafat... heck, even the Palistinians are now accusing Arafat of corruption.

Nevertheless, a more experienced President would have attempted to keep the process going around Arafat, in effect marginalizing him while keeping America's role as an honest broker. To just ignore the issue and tilt so far to Sharon's side... well... that wasn't the smartest thing to do.
