No he is not. He is a Republican with no wish to leave his party. Given the polarization that we have now, there are some things he can't do and can't be expected to do. No doubt, he thinks he can work within the system to fix things. Like I think Colin Powell thought...

McCain is a wimp.

I understand from where you are coming; however, I think McCain is an old guard Republican. He doesn't like what's happening to his party but at the same time, his values are more in line with traditional GOP values than with the Dems. That's why I wasn't excited when they talked about McCain being Kerry's VP. It would have been hypocrisy for McCain to run on that ticket.
