I've been using regcleaner for a couple of years now. I like the idea of being able to clean up junk registry entries when you no longer run a program. It also has a startup manager. Here's a link to the original free version. The newer (Regsupreme) has now become trialware.

RegCleaner...Quite easy in fact.(no geek PHD required!)
There are many advantages of cleaning your registry, but the most important one(IMHO)is that it increases you computer speed and stability. It takes me a maximum of two minutes to run RegCleaner once a week.I consider it two minutes of time for peace of mind.
PLEASE NOTE!...ALWAYS make a back-up copy of your registry before doing anything to it,including running RegCleaner the first time.
"i.e. there maybe an easier way to achieve your desired result"...agreed

Cleaning the registry can be very useful when it comes to uninstalling a software program. Getting all the junk entries out of the registry can make a future reinstall or an upgrade go much smoother.

Anyone who's ever had the misfortune of installing AOL and then deciding to deep six it can usually use a decent reg cleaner (such as the one thecow recommended) to get rid of a lot of potentially troublesome reg entries that a normal uninstall doesn't get rid of.
