Similarly, who knows you better, your immediate family or your neighbors?.

In this case, the answer is his own family members as he must have had much prolonged, close and intimate interactions with them.

Who is better to judge his character, Kerry's own crew members or crews from other boats?

In this case, one might easily choose Kerry's own crew members. But you have to consider they didn't know (and could not have known him) under the same circumstances as his family members knew him. Their period of interaction was relatively brief for a valid assessment to be made of Kerry. They had mere perceptions of the man. Mind you, perceptions are just perceptions which could change over time.

Also you will have to consider such factors as clash of personalities, general incompatibilities, jealousies and so on. But to Kerry's credit he got them to function as a unit. That says something for leadership, doesn't it?

By the way, it is in the nature of humans to disagree. Indeed, world history is replete with clashes and disagreements between individuals and nations, to say nothing of domestic disputes. By the way TV shows exploit this by providing lots of confrontational situations in their programs. Folks, for whatever perverse reason, love confrontation! Confrontation sells!

I think Republican supporters are grasping at straws every which way they can these days: they nit pick and try all smear tactics they can to discredit Kerry.

First I'll repeat that I don't wish to attack Kerry for his service, which I think was honorable. But I also think the large number of other Swift boat vets who oppose Kerry are entitled to respect as well. And they even have freedom of speech and assembly and the right to voice their opinion.

I listened to one who called in to a local radio station as I drove to work Friday. He made the point that the swift boats worked in teams of several boats. There were usually several other swift boats only a few feet or yards away.

As I understand it, most of the living vets who served under Kerry on his boats for 4 months are supporting him. I don't know how many this is since the boats had small crews - I'd guess 4,5, or 6. Though one who served on Kerry's boat under his command isn't and is adamantly opposed to his election as are the majority of swift boat vets who served on other boats.

I think Kerry's attacks on his fellow servicemen, comparing them to Genghis Khan, after his return to the states is the primary reason for this.
