The government could work to enforce CAFE regulations by closing loop holes for minivans and trucks.

The market prices will take care of moving people to fuel efficiency.

A heavy hand making refineries easier to install may help, but I doubt it.

The number one area where the government could help is to open up Federal lands like the eastern Gulf of Mexico and a variety of others. In the end these areas will be exploited, when the price is right. So even here I say maybe it is better to exploit these lands in 10 years when oil and gas prices have doubled again.

A nat gas pipeline from Alaska would be another area where we need the Federal government needs to work with Canada.
