Yes Don, bearish sentiment is bearish enough for a short term market bounce. Isn't that what the short term indicators are saying? ;-)

investorshub.com

But is it bearish enough for something more than a short term bounce? I'm afraid not. If only the volatility indices were higher! And those troublesome bull to bear surveys! And consumer confidence? It's no where near low enough.

In fact those measures of sentiment are still closer to market top levels than market bottom levels.

Sorry, RtS

Now that the 3 week reporting season is over, the quarterly earnings reports can be compared to the stock prices over the same period. For the 20 out of the 25 stocks in the Group reporting, at the bottom line, actual quarterly earnings were up 22 percent over quarterly estimates - what did the 20 stocks prices do? - they "tanked" 8 percent. Only COHU, LRCX, and WFR, exceeding quarterly estimates by 68, 46, and 59 percent respectively, managed gains of 21, 3 and 4 percent respectively. This is the 3rd quarterly reporting season in a row where quarterly earnings actuals handily beat estimates, but the stocks sold off - big time!
