With emergency interest rates, the largest deficit in history, a recovery built on "marshlands of debt" (See the Economist #reply-20390880), slowing consumer spending, and poor job creation, it should be clear that the "economy is in a mess".

The causes are varied and I don't blame everything on Bush. However, Bush is not addressing some of the more serious issues. In fact, his policies have exacerbated the debt, distribution and aggregate demand problems.

Bad policies eventually lead to bad results.
