Hi jpg. Thanks for the kind wishes.

The surprise party was a rousing success. Edie had no idea
that the real party was for our 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Since I need a wheel chair, I called ahead a few minutes
before we arrived to ask a friend to help Edie get the
wheel chair out of the Explorer. That gave folks a heads
up. When we arrived, they shouted surprise, then began
singing the lyrics to the chorus to "Without You" (Harry
Nilson). That was/is our song. I was supposed to burn a CD
with that song, ET AL, so they could play it, but my
injury made that impossible.

Having a group of friends & family that included a bunch
of blue hairs sing it was even better than playing the
song on a stereo.

I also got a bit of a surprise. My best man, who now lives
in Austin, had a conflict that made him unable to attend.
He changed his vacation/business plans & came to the
party. I didn't notice him among the crowd as they sang,
but I noticed a child that I knew I knew, but he wasn't
among the folks I expected to be at the party. I quickly
realized why I was confused. It was my good friend's son.

Everything was perfect. My sister-in law & her daughter
made a huge collage of pictures documenting the 32 <font size=2>1/2<font size=3>
years Edie & I have been together. A dear friend of my
parents painted a large card congratulating us on our 25
years of marriage. My sister, her daughter & Edie's maid
of honor decorated the fire hall with beautiful silver
candles in glass holders, silver bells, balloons, party
favors, ET AL. They set up a special table for Edie & I
with all kinds of beautiful decorations.

My next door neighbor cooked up dozens of cookies. My mom
made a batch of her potato salad & more cookies. My sister
made a huge batch of assorted fresh fruit salad. A good
friend had an assortment of chips, nuts, pretzels, etc.,
at every table to go with the chocolates in the party
favors. Edie's maid of honor made a special cake for us &
bought a huge decorated cake for everyone.

The caterer I used was fantastic! We had 5 entrees - roast
pork, sirloin tips & mushrooms in gravy, chicken cordon
blue, stuffed shells & three huge hoagie rings, salad,
buttered noodles & assorted vegetables & dip.

Burrrrrrrrrp!

I insisted that everyone make sure they take home
leftovers (we had dozens of clamshells ready). They loaded
up, but Edie & I still ended up with a freezer full of
leftovers too.

Folks arrived at 5:30 pm & we were only supposed to have
the hall for 5 hours. Most of the blue hairs began leaving
around the appointed time (or their bed time - gg), but
most folks were still having a grand time (all we did was
play some background music & shoot the breeze, moving from
one group to another). At 1 am we decided it was time to
call it a day so they could clean up & lock up. A bunch of
us then hung out in front of the fire hall for another 45
minutes or so.

It turned out to be a close to perfect as one could
possibly expect.

Edie still has a big grin & she is sleeping on the couch
next to me.

I couldn't be happier or more blessed.

:-)
