TSM Semi contract manufacturers' sales defy tech slump fears -- Reuters (6.88 )

Leading contract manufacturers TSMC and UMC posted record-high July sales on Monday, defying investor fears of an imminent technology slump, Reuters reports. Neither TMSC or UMC gave reasons for the strong numbers, Reuters said, but both have said the PC sector was showing signs of picking up in Q3. Tech investors in recent months have worried about rising chip inventories and the start of a sector downturn. Yet Reuters quotes a Nomura Securities analyst who says there's a "big, big disconnect" between corporate fundamentals and share prices due to overblown inventory fears.
