I doubt a person or group of persons would "lionize and embellish" stories regarding a nobody. Far moe easy to start with someone of renown.

That being said, many people believe Socrates didn't exist and that Plato actually wrote the works in order to publish them with fear of repercussion from the state. Maybe so.

The argument is silly anyway. The Roman's seemed to embrace Christianity much more swiftly than did the Jews. Much embellishment could have come from Romans, wishing to plant seeds of rebellion against a political foe.

Then again.....the argument is worthless. People made more of Martin Luther King, John and Bobby Kennedy,Mother Therasa,Lady Di, Jim Morrison and Davy Crockett, just to name a few, than they accomplished in their lives. Many gunfighters in the "old West" are similar illusions. Many aren't. History always finds a way of documenting things correctly when the smoke clears.

John Kerry set out to do the same for himself while living. I believe he made an error in so overtly documenting his activities or claimed activities.
