What's [O'Reilly's] agenda?

I haven't watched talking head TV for a long time. I'm usually sitting at my computer working so I'd need one of those insert screens to watch anything. I really prefer the blogs as well as sites like SI because people are upfront about their agendas, unlike most of the big media folks. None of them plays the news straight.

PS, speaking of agendas, the latest paper issue of National Review has an interesting article on Warren Buffett and the estate tax he is opposed to repealing. Buffett has bought quite a few family-owned businesses that wouldn't have been put on the market if the heirs didn't have to pay estate taxes. He also got them at good prices - not dirt cheap, but less than he would have paid had the owners not had to sell. However, when I have seen Buffett quoted on this, it's always been from the perspective of "why should I, who's so wealthy, get a tax cut" and nothing was ever mentioned about his financial interest in the estate tax being retained. Everybody's got an angle.

What I don't understand is people like O'Reilly, who is discounting this. What's his agenda?

It's "early days," and he is playing the "I am being fair" routine. He will jump on if it expands. Never forget what a blowhard he is.

I think O'Reilly believed Kerry years ago and has not been able to shake that belief up.
Here is some old background on Bill O and his aversion to Vietnam. It makes me think O'Reilly can't attack Kerry about Nam because O'Reilly himself avoided the service and he opens himself to press investigation if he steps into this.

This entire story, imo, is going to hang on the book. If the book is as detailed as I have heard, it is a blockbuster. If not, this story likely fizzles. But not without having done considerable harm to Kerry.

Clinton proved that Democrats can love a liar. It is up to Kerry to prove that Democrats can love a liar and a phony all wrapped up in one package.
