The "not on Kerry's boat" is a stupid argument that only some non-military people might suck up.

I spent my time as a B29 crewmember and I can guarantee I knew every officer and crew man in my squadron, their foibles, abilities and shortcomings. I didn't have to fly with them to know their character or personality. We saw each other daily at briefings, mess, at the clubs or even socially when home.
I knew the good officers and pilots and the ones you wouldn't want to fly with. No doubt the swift boats crews were even more intimately involved with each other as they were probably a smaller outfit than a full squadron of airmen. Besides, I would certainly trust the word of an Admiral, Captain and other line officers before a Lt. JG liar like Kerry.
