Just suppose he did exaggerate his wounds, does that mean he didn't demonstrate bravery under fire and earn two awards for bravery including saving the life of a crewmen???? If the accounts were exaggerated I don't know what he did or didn't do, and can only listen to the conflicting accounts of the men who served with him. It's clear enough what he used his three Purple Hearts for once he had them - he got out of there. Now, I probably would have done the same in his shoes. But I would have had more sense than to run as some kind of war hero if I had his record.
