SWiftyVets aren't just deceptive, they're dead wrong. Kerry did not lie to congress, he simply used descriptive language for shock value about some of the things that were going on in Nam. Why? To get his point across that the war must end. He admitted he too had taken part in some of it too.

The debate is how do you define "atrocity"? That is addressed in McNamara's "the Fog Of War". Is it an atrocity to drop Agent Orange over a forest and kill it and everything around it? Kerry would say yes of course, but the rightwing vets don't consider that something wrong. In fact they believe anything the US does is righteous, no matter what. Or should be hushed up. That's just dishonest.

Also, the US did indeed have assassins who beheaded people etc. Look at the CIA's Phoenoix Program. Thousands were killed in brutal ways for terror effect. The assassins used were Navy SEALS. JK probably knew some of them. Probably ferried some of them. Might have even taken part in the missions.
