Let's see: one is a war hero, who saw that the war was wrong and worked courageously to end it. Defended victims as a prosecutor. Served honorably and ably as a Senator for 20 years.

The other: avoided service in Vietnam. Self-admitted alcoholic who wasted much of his youth. Failed businessman. Mediocre governor. Failure as President in almost every metric you can point to.

Maybe it's not his fault. I read where his parents could be to blame for messing him up so badly. When his three year old sister died of leukemia when W was seven, the family refused to allow him to grieve. No funeral. They apparently went golfing...the next day.

Of course, the 'personal responsibility Republicans' would just say: shake it off. Don't blame your parents, even if they've planted the seeds of numerous mental health problems. So I guess he doesn't even have that to fall back on.
