I think this is a war on all terrorism, not just Al Qaeda, frankly, and therefore that we have to be concerned with putting groups like Hamas on ice

Right on, and one of the greatest supporters of Hamas/ Hezbollah is Iran, and if the UN and the international community, namely the European countries, fail again to do their duty, as they failed in past, then the civilized world is in great trouble. We may have to pull back into our own redoubt, guarded by our own missile defense and watch Europe and much of Asia, excepting China, disappear under Muslim rule. Orwellian.

So really here are the differences in political thought.

The right wing believes:
*Israelies are ALL good. Because they were persecuted during WWII they cannot persecute others now.
*Islamic people are ALL bad there is no reason for them to be angry. They are not our equals we will have to "monitor" them.
*We are good and did nothing to provoke them.
*Mossedeq (Who?) Shah? Stick head in sand. Money for Saddam? Stick head in sand. Support for other Dictators? Stick head in sand.
*Killing 'terrorists" or "enemies" will eventually prevail. But even though Islamic people are ALL bad most of them will not get angry when they see their neighbors and family members get killed and will docilely decline to join the struggle and just let Halliburton do what it wants. Of course if that's not true we'll just have to KILL ALL OF THEM.
*Oil has nothing to do with it. We are there to FREE those people even if they don't appreciate it.
*SUVs and overconsumption by Americans have NOTHING to do with our problems. We should INCREASE our consumption. There is PLENTY OF OIL left. We need more gizmos and BIGGER CARS to be HAPPY and FREE. Greenhouse warming is a plot. Pollution is no problem. There are plenty of trees left. (Once you've seen one you've seen em all.) America is a garden of eden. Like Los Angeles.

The left believes:
*We've supported numerous Dictatorships in the Middle East. including Saddam.
*Islamic people are like most other people. Mostly good, some misguided. Doesn't mean they are our best friends.
*Islamic people are like most other people. They wish to sell their goods (OIL) and services for as much as they can. Doesn't mean we have to pay it. We can conserve to drive prices down.
*Islamic people are like most other people. They wish to govern themselves without outside interference from the CIA. Even if it means they make mistakes. Their mistakes are their business.
*Islamic people are angered by usurpation of their lands. Unemployment breeds anger and hatred.
*Using force to solve these economic problems and problems of justice will just create more anger and the WAR (declared over by Bush) will never end. NEVER (1984).
*Perhaps justice and non violent economic competition (conservation) would be more moral and more effective than massive spilling of blood. Or at least we should try justice and economic competition before force is used.
*The big winners in this war are the ARMs Companies and OIL Companies that support Bush and are more powerful than our government.
*The loosers are the poor who shed blood on both sides, and the average TAX PAYERS who will pay for this war instead of being able to pay for health care for their loved ones.

Is that about it?
