Remember, I said a small business, which BTW, is the engine that drives the US Economy. A small business can not afford to have a malcontent, no matter how good he/she is. They need a capable and smart person, with a good attitude.

Perhaps the difference is Government hiring vs that of small business. In Government and very large businesses, there is a place to put people that are very good at their specific task, and not very good in other needed skills that are really required. Both these entities can either push the person to a lower job, or a side job. I met many of those types in my career. Not much I could ever do for them. Peter Principle at work.

Small business (defined by the Government as under 500 employees) can't afford this type.

Sorry about that. If what you're asking me is to choose between a overqualified but temperamental candidate and an underqualified and agreeable candidate, I'll take the first. Being able to do the job is the first priority. Temperament is secondary.
