no it was the anticipation of better times. It's always better to buy anticipation then reality. The selling we have now is the realization that the anticipation was over done. Typical market action and should not be surprising.

Note to Lizzy, I believe we will get through this in good shape. What we are getting now are hard numbers that indicate what companies weathered the storm and are in good shape. Painful as it is, I think the selling now is a gift.

I agree sept- oct will be the bottom which by the way is another example of typical market action. The only fly in the soup is how many others feel that way. The more players there are that feel we will have a bottom in sept-oct time frame, the less likely it will happen. IMHO. So, watch the news, read the rags, and read active threads on SI for signs of a spreading group decision on the bottom. <bg> (oh there is that anticipation factor again).

by the way the action in CSCO is one of my market tells. You can't have a healthy bull market with-out CSCO being part of it. CSCO's tenancies are big, far reaching, and quick to feel the economic pulse. IMHO

If for no other reason, then because Nov-Jan is a very typically an up pattern. Just look at your stock charts. You'll see that pattern almost every year. Might as well make money on it. Since I don't buy and sell frequently, I use the knowledge of seasonal patterns to time my buys. So for instance, I've been building up a large cash pile since June and will buy late October or right after the election. So far the seasonal dip this time of year has really played out. I'm glad I've been waiting. Otherwise, I already would have taken a bad haircut on any money invested in June.
