Oh, he had the affair with another man, all right. Now that it's out in the open, people are saying it was an open secret in Trenton (state capital) and Woodbridge (where McGreevey was mayor) that he was gay. One columnist I like, Paul Mulshine, said that when he got the word about the press conference, he was expecting McGreevy to announce that he was gay, but not expecting him to resign. Just coming out of the closet would not have hurt McGreevey much politically, it's all the other stuff, which is why he focused on the gay issue.
