John

That is probably the most cogent and reasonable explanation why Kerry's so-called "Band of Brothers" stands with him. They all have a vested interest in perpetuating the myth Kerry has created that he is some kind of war hero. If his medals are tarnished, then potentially so are theirs.

Definitely.

All of those men have something to lose if they have been blowing smoke about the OP to their family and friends.

why the enlisted crewmen of Kerry's boat would support him.

Lot's of possible wildcards in this Swift boat controversy. I mentioned that the defection of a swift boat vet is one. The other one is if a Kerry boat member defected. That would be a campaign killer. You know all eight of them are going to read the book next week. They are going to see, for the first time, the facts of their Vietnam experience gathered into a coherent narrative. Some of them have already admitted to O'Neil's investigators they know the Kerry version is not true on Cambodia.

If one or two of them defected, it would end Kerry.
