Hi Slacker,

I think, there is pressure on higher-density products because demand is relatively slower than supply growth as a result Sandisk is not buying as much from Samsung (last q they went from 30% to only 20% from non-captive sources, i.e. other than FV). This must be forcing Samsung to dump their excess supply in the spot market.

A couple of presentations by Sandisk on the benefits of Transflash.

Unfortunately, I think that over the next year or so that Sandisk might actually benefit more from the adoption of miniSD or RS-MMC than Transflash. The problem is that densities arent nearly enough for MP3 player equipped handsets. The roadmap on the last page of the second link shows that 512MB modules wont be available until the second half of '05 and 1GB until the middle of '06. I can absolutely guarantee that consumers are looking for those card sizes right now.

OTOH, the card sizes probably track pretty well with progress in camera phone resolutions....
