Pure Ethanol is C2H5OH chemically. You must not drink it neat at 99 - 100% pure. It can kill you at this concentration. To make it drinkable, it has to be diluted with water or fruit juices to about 40% ethanol or lower. Beware: some bottles marked "ethanol" contain a mixture of the poisonous methanol(methylated spirits) and various amounts vomit-inducing stuff like pyridine, gasoline, benzene & etc. This is to discourage folks from using it for drinks. You see, the authorities want you to buy stuff from the liquor stores so that they can get your sin tax. When I was doing research in a lab many years ago, I had easy access to ABSOLUTE ALCOHOL which is virtually pure ethanol. Even then I exercised care to distill the stuff to get colourless ethanol before using it to make "vodka".
