The week before last the VIX broke above the downtrend going back to Mar 03

This week it re-tested the breakout and appears to have formed a triangle on the daily chart connecting the daily high/lows.

So if (more like when) the VIX breaks out from here it would be a 3rd leg or a c, neither of which will be pretty for the market.

The HUI appears to be bottoming.

The SP500 has closed two consecutive weeks under the 38.2% retrace of the 2000-2002 decline.
