Nadine the capture of British troops on sea were British troops in a boat provocatively inside Iranian waters

I have also heard reports that they were in International waters. I don't know the truth of it.

It's the same as the Korean pilot of the 747 provoked the USSR, which shot them down

Yes, they "provocatively" enter the wrong numbers into their flight path, so the Soviets "unprovocatively" shot down a civilian airliner without any warning.

I would be surprised if they aren't doing what they can in self-defence, such as supporting fighters in Iraq who are on their side.

I'm sure the Iranians do think of their attempts to foment a Shia rebellion in Iraq as self-defence. The Iraqis, who by a large majority do not support Sadr (that includes a large majority of Shia) don't agree. All reports say the Iraqis are nationalistic, and currently support the government - polls give Allawi 70% to 80% support. If he can't show he's master of Najaf that figure won't hold, but it's there now.

From Iran's point of view, if the USA electorate gives the game away due to carnage in Iraq, that's good. So, the more carnage the better, in Iraq.

So I guess you class the Iranian mullahs among those unnamed foreign leaders who want Kerry to win. Me too.
