Aye there's the rub. The elite liberal media is not much
different than the liberal left. Many of them have a deep
hatred of Bush. They know full well that if they begin to
cover this swift boat thing widely, it is likely to cause
the implosion of the Kerry campaign. And they really do
not want to see a second Bush term.

As much as I agree that the elite liberal media can be
dragged, kicking & screaming into covering stories they
have spiked, sandbagged, etc., they might be very
reluctant to give this story wide coverage until/unless
they absolutely have to.

And no, I do not think this is a vast conspiracy among the
elite liberal media. I do think it is more a groupthink
phenomenon. Liberals dominate the media, particularly at
the highest levels. They have convinced themselves, their
peers & subordinates that this is a non-story or right
wing conspiracy unworthy of objective coverage (plus they
know this is a campaign killer issue). Since there are so
many like minded liberals among them in their little
protective bubble, there is no room for alternate POV's.
