I've experienced these colloquies before without result so I take your point but, as a humanist, it's a matter of faith with me. I don't want to believe that there are people who simply cannot explain what they mean by what they say. I keep thinking that if I just give it enough time or ask the right questions... You wouldn't want me to lose my faith, would you? <g>

Karen's last response was "You must have read it wrong, kh." That's not a close out bid. Or perhaps I read that wrong, too.

"You must have read it wrong" is typically towards the end of the interrogation sequence, if that's of any comfort to you. Either a breakthrough is forthcoming in the next exchange or two or it is, indeed, hopeless. I think your assessment of a dead horse is a couple of steps premature. But then I'm something of a die-hard so you may be the better judge.
