Right. And employers are charged PLENTY. It is one of the biggest screwings employers get in most states second to workers comp, another ripoff.

Forcing employers to save for their employees for rough times.

I wish someone would please tell me whatever happened to the concept of "Rugged Individualism". I've faced some pretty rough times in my life, but I would have given up everything I owned before I drew a nickel of unemployment or other similar benefits.

At one time, I had paid into the system on myself and my wife (as a corporate officer) for 15 years, at which time the corporation was sold off and shut down, technically resulting in us "losing our jobs". We could have drawn huge benefits; but we would have considered it shameful -- in spite of the fact we could have used the money. People who are unemployed need to get off their asses and find a job. There isn't much incentive if you're being paid as much for watching General Hospital as you were for working 10 hours a day.
