After all, guys like Jimmy Carter also "talk to God," but I know you don't have a beef with him.

He does it in privacy and he doesn't start wars on "God's advice"....he builds homes for the homeless.

Thanks, Al. I knew it was about opposing Bush all along, and not about a personal distaste for those who "talk to God." After all, guys like Jimmy Carter also "talk to God," but I know you don't have a beef with him.

In the 20th and 21st centuries no president has set such a religious tone to his presidency as Bush has. In fact, recently, the So. Baptists or another religious group were ready to make him their spiritual leader. Bush has looked for any avenue to bring church groups into the White House and to pass legislation that is supportive of the church. There were reports from one meeting in the Middle East where Bush indicated that God told him to behave in a particular way.

None of the above is appropriate for a government founded on the principle of separation of church and state.....not as you define it but as Jefferson defined it.

I'll stop now before I become more confrontational than I have to be. Seems like this thread can use a lot less confrontation and a lot more real dialogue.

There would be less confrontation if people stuck closer to the facts and left their biases on the keyboard and not in their posts.
