The details are unimportant. The larger picture, the one on which we get the measure of the man, the one that counts, is not a pretty one. A bucketful of medals, including 3 PHs for which he received next to no treatment, followed by a directive to get him out of VN pronto before he did some real damage, followed upon his return to the World by the Winter Soldiers crap, followed a few decades later by "John Kerry Reporting For Duty" BS. It's utterly laughable. I'd be unable to speak for the embarrassment if I were trying to sell that bill of goods to the American public. The man, as Kristofferson in his songwriting better days would say, is a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction. Which is fine, were Kerry a poet or drifter, but not if he is being considered for the most responsible position imaginable. What we see is a mountain of opportunism, a facile bending to the winds of fortune which bodes badly for the fight we're in. Can anyone with any certainty predict what Kerry would do under the stress of a given situation? Is there anything consistent about the man, except his complete lack of consistency? Who is he? What is he? Damned if I know.
