Agreed. Both sides are now slinging it, in different ways. That's why a site like Fact Check is so valuable. News organizations have seemed to fade away from their responsibility of holding back the tide of lies, either by promoting those lies themselves (e.g. FOX) or in completely sidestepping (e.g. mainstream news networks).

I assume, since you've given credence to the Fact Check site, that you now see the fallacy and lies of the Swifties.

Furthermore, I believe that Bush has a potential big win in this situation. If he were to hold a news conference, and vehemently denounce the Swifties, it would elevate him in the minds of many of the undecided voters. He wouldn't lose many votes (maybe some of the hurt swifties would abstain, but they're clearly not going to vote for Kerry).

A true innovation: a Rove-based candidate breaking from the Big Rove Lie tactic. It would show a degree of statemanship, and possibly show that Bush is ready to break away from his handlers. And finally be his own man.
