One can buy pre-ban rifles and pistols on web auction sites through an FFL currently, with the ban still in-place. The only thing the ban does is increase the cost of a rifle with a flash suppressor from $1000 to $2000 to $2500. Thats the real result of the "ban".

The ban didn't stop the rare Columbine shootings using a Tec DC-9 pistol. The ban didn't stop the DC snipers? The police use them and they are marked Law Enforcement Only. If self loaders with pistol grips are only usefull for indiscriminately spraying bullets to kill people, why do the police need them and why do they buy them in large quantities? For the 1% of crimes that were perpetrated with AWs before 1994, millions were legally used for hunting, target shooting and even self defense such as the LA riots where Korean store owners prevented criminals from burning and looting their homes and businesses. Why did the Koreans have to resort to self defense in LA? Because the police refused to respond to help them. The police have no legal obligation to even show up if called. When they don't show, now what are you going to do? Beg for the lives of yourself and your family? The police show up a lot less than people seem to think. In Detroit and Washington DC, the police will not even respond in many areas unless there was a homicide or machine gun fire.
