however, to say that an artist should be morally bound to not include any revealing commentary (particularly in a personal performance, as opposed to an acting performance) doesn't make sense.

What is morality, if it is not based in our mutually shared nature? Enam, because you and I are essentially one thing, morality informs me that when you come to hear my music, you will not wish to pay for advertisements of causes that are antithetical to your beliefs.

Here is what Linda did:

"Before singing Desperado for an encore Saturday night, the 58-year-old rocker called Moore a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth." She also encouraged everybody to see the documentary about President Bush."

This was a political promotion against Bush, pure and simple. The immorality of it is in baiting people to pay for such a promotion when many of them would certainly not have paid for it.

Morality calls you to put yourself in their shoes and then act in a manner to avoid the damage. Rondstadt was heedless of morality here. She is still heedless of it. I personally would be ashamed. I would refund every penny of that performance. Then, to establish the good will that was undoubtedly expected by the attendees, I would give a concert, free of charge - and we would all have the fun for which those folks paid.
