Is there as much sacrifice in the Guard, during Vietnam, than in the active service? Certainly not. So, Kerry better served his country than Bush. That is what the neocons want to cover up, with these attacks on Kerry. Certainly, the RNC is going to stay 'neutral'. That has always been their strategy; let surrogates do the attacking, then stand back and appear neutral. Again, if Bush were a real man, he'd come out and say "Stop these lying attacks on Kerry". As far as whether these vets are lying, they are clearly disputing the facts as put forth by Rassmann and Kerry's crew. Most of them do so based on what OTHER vets have said, having no personal knowledge of the incidents. So, they could be called misinformed; they are relying on the word of others. The real liars are the ones that change facts, or misrepresent them, to discredit Kerry with innuendo. Most of the 'affidavits' are assertions that Kerry's post-war protest hurt America, or are based on what other people said. The doctor who allegedly treated Kerry says the wound was self inflicted and not in the presence of enemy fire, based on his supposed conversation with Kerry's crewmembers - who deny saying anything of the sort. This doctor's name isn't even on the medical papers, yet he's supposed to be 'proof' that Kerry's injuries were self-inflicted (never mind minor - the severity of the injury is not an issue in the Purple Heart award, and many Swifties apparently got awards for such 'minor' wounds). It strikes me as a bunch of hogwash. A few of the vets lie, and the others pile on and give credence to the lies, even though they don't know first hand. That is EXACTLY what a smear campaign is about; start with a small core of lies, then build up around it.
