It appears that Rassman was part of (or advising) the Mobile Strike Force that swiftboats were moving at the time. There is no evidence that Kerry even knew who Rassman was at the time.

It surely would be interesting to know why Rassman was on that boat.

Was he there on some official assignment?

Or, did Kerry invite him along, hoping for some action along the way, action for which he might just get written up for a medal?
