Larry, I think you may need to go to Tools/AutoCorrect Options. Then pick the tab called "Autoformat as you type" and unclick Automatic Numbered Lists and Automatic Bulleted Lists. The other thing you can do when the problem occurs is hit backspace and then click on the little symbol in the toolbar above on the icon that decreases the indent. If you aren't familiar with that icon put your cursor over each little icon on the toolbar and hold it still a second to see what the icon name is. You should find that icon in the toolbar that has font size, bold, underline, italic, etc.
