Interestingly, the problem is likely driver-related.

If I import the FOLDERS table using DTS, some of the names are garbled. I didn't have any "unusual" characters in my folder names on this side and still had one come across garbled.

I made an ASP routine to do the importing (after all, there are only 15k folders) and that seemed to fix the problem.

It's a bit puzzling that DTS was mangling the data, but since it works fine in ASP, I'm not going to bother trying to find out why DTS was doing what it was doing.
