No, I don't have any kids, or even a wife to consult. Nor was I steadily employed in my "consultant" status at the time. So, I didn't have anything attaching me to S. CA, except I liked the tennis club I was in!

One of the aquaintances I know came to US about 5 decades ago (rare for Indians at that time), did his PhD from Berkeley (or some marquee university), became a professor, then a citizen and eventually retired.
He went back to India after retiring and lives like a king on just his Social Security payments alone.
