The oil thing isn't a conspiracy, it's a fact. Kind of obscure facts, but facts nontheless that anyone can look up and piece together. Iraq did threaten to invade Kuwaitt in the early 1970s and was rebuffed by the British. The U.S. government did start planning to take over the Mid East oil fields by force as far back as the Nixon Adminstration. Prez Carter did identify Saddam Huessein as potential future adversary in our zest for controlling the oil in that region of the world. We did arm Saddam in the 1980s, knowing he was a madman and capable of invading neighbors like he did with Iran. We did know Saddam was threatening to invade Kuwaitt in 1990, we even sent our ambassador to talk it over with him; certainly our satelites must have picked up his troop movmements along the border with Kuwaitt. Perhaps we miscalculated and thought he would just take the oil fields and leave the rest of Kuwaitt alone? Perhaps not.

In any case, it all adds up to the fact that we planned for an eventual military action in the Middle East for two decades, knew Saddam was a potential adversary and knew Iraq had long sought to control Kuwaitt, and we armed him anyway. We more or less built Saddam up and let him waltz into Kuwaitt. We conviently were able to set up permanent military bases in Middle Eastern countries as a result of the 1991 war; countries that were previously off limits to our troops. A nice way to keep our finger on the oil supplies, it's all there in black and white.
