These Olympics have been epic .....

.......... I thought terrorists would wreck them and, frankly, fear of terrorism has really hurt them. But this setting is spectacular and so many young athletes have made these Olympics fabulous.

That 200-meter men's freestyle race (Ian Thorpe, Pieter van den Hoogenband, Michael Phelps) was sensational. Not only has Phelps been great, but so have Natalie Coughlin, Kaitlin Sandeno, Amanda Beard, Yana Klochkova, and Jodie Henry. That great men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay team that held off the Australians the other day was great. And what about that fabulous world record by the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay team? Then, Paul Hamm's incredible comeback!

This first week has been terrific. Today could just add to the list with Amanda Beard going for her first individual gold medal ever. Maybe, too, we could see something cool out of Carly Patterson or Catalina Ponor in the women's all-around.

First the Greek victory in the European Championships (soccer) earlier this summer. Now the show they're putting on for us in Athens.
