Jay, Hong Kong seems to be behind the times. Licences have been issued, but nobody seems to be doing the job yet. Hutchison seems to have been pathetic. 3gnewsroom.com

I think that some of the W-CDMA licensees and maybe a CDMA2000 operator [presumably Hutchison will pull their finger out] will be operating there next year and perhaps even as soon as this year.

Hong Kong had the first commercial CDMA system at the end of 1995, but left it to fizzle as GSM handsets and competition took over. Korea zoomed ahead of Hong Kong in mobile communications and now is the world's foremost place though Japan has turned on and is going quickly to try to catch up.

Here's a company which can see a very big opportunity going begging in Hong Kong: 3g.co.uk

When Hong Kong switches over, it will be in a big rush.

CDMA in Hong Kong must be as scarce as hen's teeth, even without an H5N1 pandemic.

Jay, maybe the letters CDMA confuse you. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. As Brianh pointed out, keep an eye out for "3". Also you might have heard of some or all of; "Lee Ka Shing", or some guy "Canning Fok" 3g.co.uk or "3G" or "3GSM" or "Hutchison Whampoa" and you might like to attend this function in Hong Kong in November to get a taste of what's coming: 3g.co.uk

They all translate into American as "CDMA" and translate into Kiwi as "Mqurice's cash flow". When you see any of them while you are out and about in your SUV, think "Heck, there goes that CDMA stuff again".

There might be a Aztec convention you can attend too and you could compare the amount of excitement at each.

Meanwhile, back on the race-track,
