So what's your read on when the bear market will end? I can't read charts well, because I spend most of my time investing for the long term, but I bet this bear market ends once we have a newly elected President. :)

You may well be right. For myself, I don't claim such farsighted expertise

We have surely been through a wrenching three months, indeed a turbulent and difficult four years in which long lists of stocks lost 66-80-90-95% of their value, and many stocks selling below perceived value

More recently I have been noticing an easing of the gloom which overhung the market until about 1 1/2 weeks ago and have so commented previously

I suppose one could also anecdotally observe that a market with repeated 100+ point gains in the Dow during a one-week span may finally be beginning to turn up

I certainly believe there's a lot of risk still in the market with a small minority of stocks likely to do moderately well... and a much longer list with a lot of downside risk. In this sense I certainly share your observation about risk
