I am a little rusty on my definitions of the standards, but I believe enemy fire is defined for these purposes as "guided" weaponry. For example, rifle, automatic weapons, even aircraft strafing....I believe a single detonation event like a mine is treated under a different definitional term. (My memory is pretty ragged on this, but these definitions used to be important). This is Thurlow's statement today:

"To this day, I can say without a doubt in my mind, along with other accounts from my shipmates -- there was no hostile enemy fire directed at my boat or at any of the five boats operating on the river that day."

So, he can't be speaking about the mine as "fire". Face it, he and Kerry were in exactly the same point of reference that day....they are either both worthy or docoration and respect for the day's events, or neither is.

Good gravy, man, give it up and admit you made a mistake. Don't take your cue from Bush, who never admits mistakes because they would make him appear 'weak':

A document recommending Thurlow for the Bronze Star noted that all his actions "took place under constant enemy small arms fire which LTJG THURLOW completely ignored in providing immediate assistance" to the disabled boat and its crew. The citation states that all other units in the flotilla also came under fire.

Constant enemy small arms fire is pretty clear, don't you think?

Besides, Kerry's boat was also hit by the impact of a mine exploding, the one that sent Kerry into the boathouse wall and threw Rassmann into the water. So, what's the point?
