Most left-wing critics --epitomized perhaps by Michael Moore's blockbuster documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11-- have rather reflexively argued that the economic factor, particularly the interests of Big Oil, or "the ruling class", must have been decisive. But many right-wing critics, who know the ruling class from the inside, lean to a different explanation, in part by pointing out that Big Oil, to the extent it took any position at all on the war, opposed it. As evidence, they cite the unusually public opposition to a unilateral invasion voiced quite publicly by such eminent oil and ruling-class-related influentials as former president George H W Bush's national security adviser Brent Scowcroft and secretary of state James Baker. That's funny, because no matter what the original motivation for the war was be it monetary or religious, oil certainly plays a key role now. The U.S. is controlling the oil revenues and god only knows who is pocketing that money?!? Notice how little has gone into rebuilding Iraq? Also, the U.S. has installed a CIA puppet as Prime Minister, and the U.S. wrote the new Iraqi governing documents in such a way that ensures U.S. control of the oil resources for the forseeable future. We don't care about their oil?!? Our empire, both militarily and financially is dependent on oil. Iraq had the goods, now we've got them. Israel lost a big foe in Saddam Huessein and his departure is helpful to them, but our attack on Iraq was really prodded along by another Saddam foe, Iran. Iran was the one who introduced the U.S. to that guy Chabillis, the guy who fed us all the false WMD info that gave our neocons a hard on for war. The U.S. did both Israel and Iran a big favor by getting rid of Saddam, kind of odd that we helped out two enemies, but nontheless true. Iran was the country that engineered our attack against Iraq, and I'm sure many prominent Iranians are having a good laugh about it now.
