I don't know the ins and outs of Kerry's medals but one document is signed by Lehman and one isn't. Lehman was 12 years later. The report I posted was on his Silver Star. Your references are both on his Bronze Star. This means Lehman signed off on changes in BOTH medals.

Nice dig. The second (Lehman) citation is embellished. The words "Lieutenant Junior Grade Kerry" were changed several times to "Lieutenant (jg) Kerry". The word calmness was removed. The last sentence of the text and the very last sentence were reworked too. Changed from: "Lieutenant (junior grade) Kerry's calmness, professionalism and great personal courage under fire were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." To: Lieutenant (jg) Kerry's professionalism, great personal courage under fire, and complete dedication to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." The last sentence is changed from: "Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY is authorized to wear the combat "V". To: "The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized." Kerry has a hangup about his rank, another about calmness, and a third about the "V". "V" is the proper terminology. It is called the "V" device. It goes on the servicemembers DD-214. I have mine in front of me. Mine is posted this way, "BSMwVDev (1OLC)". The (1OLC) means 1 Oak Leaf Cluster...I got two BS. :o)
