Yeah, dropping polygamy was a requirement for Utah to become a state. Texas gave up its claim on parts of what is now New Mexico, Colorado and other states for the same reason. And if California were a territory and allowed gay marriages, it probably would have to drop that right if it wanted to be a state.

Ok, let's look at the case of first cousins marrying. According to this site cuddleinternational.org , there is this entry, Cousins may legally evade state laws and marry elsewhere. Now if all marriages have to be recognized by other states, this would be a curious entry. By implication, there are cases where cousins may not legally evade state laws and marry elsewhere.
