Sure it would. The cases of mixed marriages in the days of segregation were tried many times.

Things are different now. Even though gay marriage would be a more radical departure from tradition and traditional law, it would be more likely to be accepeted.

And when Utah allowed polygamous marriages

Utah wasn't allowed to become state with legal polygamous marriages. Utah is a better example of the Feds imposing on a state then some states not recognizing marriages that where legal in other states.
