I imagine Rassman was in a bit of shock to be thrown overboard by Kerry's boats sudden acceleration and then to surface and find Kerry going, going, gone. It would scare the hell out of me to see my salvation disappearing around the bend in the river. When you're bouncing around in the swells you have no idea if it enemy gunfire or friendly.
