Now how about you? How did you dodge the draft?

Went to school and then taught in the south bronx and then got a high lottery number. Actually did a good job teaching. Always felt guilty about not going but i would have been a horrible soldier. Also felt guilty about the folks who bravely resisted without the aid of deferrments and went to jail rather than take the easy way out.
You were used in that war Mike. And as much as i supported the iraqi war at its inception, i think todays soldiers are used much in the same way. Being used leads to bitterness and self delusion which is where i think you are. War in vietnam was not lost by congress, it was lost by the generals and the troops, not because of specific failing but because the enemy had wide enough support or at least wider than the govt in the South. I hope the same doesnt happen in iraq. Mike
